Want to be an awesome student? It’s easier than you think.
Most students think that being a ‘good’ student or a ‘smart’ student is something that is innate; that you’re born with it. Well, you’re not. There is one common thing that I have noticed all of my students who excel have in common (and it’s not an over-sized brain or the academic genetics of Stephen Hawking), it’s something called ‘grit’.
Grit is about having endurance. It’s about never giving up. It’s about ‘sticking at it’; a familiar echo of the schools “Habits of Mind”. And it is this powerful skill that you can teach yourself. Angela Duckworth, a renowned educator and psychologist, has written an entire novel on the benefits of being ‘gritty’ and why it is the gritty students who go on to excel and succeed, not just in the classroom, but in life. Being an awesome student is not about genius, it’s about grit.
So, if you want to be that awesome student you always wanted to be, then you can! Let’s learn how to ‘get gritty’ together and take charge of your studies, school and, indeed, your life, head on 🙂
